Gustave Baumann (1881-1971) created color woodcut prints of American rural landscapes. Baumann was active in the era before photo-reproduction replaced wood engraving. He was active in the Chicago and Indiana countryside until he took a trip to Taos, N.M. which then became his home. He lived in the Santa Fe area for more than 50 years and carved into wood southwestern landscapes and spring and summer gardens and orchards. His prints are awash in brilliant, hand-ground pigments.
