Lucia Mathews and her husband, Arthur, thrived in the Bay Area at the turn of the early 20th century and helped develop a unique California style of the Arts and Crafts Movement that swept America at that time. Recreated with permission from the Oakland Museum of California we are thrilled to offer this limited edition digital print. In keeping with the Arts and Crafts Movement, each print is individually hand-colored in water color and gouache. The creator of this design was an amazing woman of her time, Marie Zimmerman (1879-1972). She was active in a “man’s world” creating metal sculptures and objects with a distinctive organic style. She came from a wealthy family, didn’t need to work and had no desire to marry – she was a true maverick. Antonio Ziranda created a beautiful interpretation of Zimmerman’s original vase. We first saw this bowl in the dining room at the famous Greene and Green Gamble Home Museum in Pasadena, California in the mid-1990's.
