The creator of this design was an amazing woman of her time, Marie Zimmerman (1879-1972). She was active in a “man’s world” creating metal sculptures and objects with a distinctive organic style. She came from a wealthy family, didn’t need to work and had no desire to marry – she was a true maverick. Antonio Ziranda created a beautiful interpretation of Zimmerman’s original vase. We have just ONE!

In 1996 I had the good fortune of a return visit to the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. I was eager to visit the Mixtec ruins of Mitla, 30 miles east of the capital. The site is at least 1,000 years old and is filled with carefully cut stone with indigenous patterns. One of those designs was the inspiration for this beautiful platter, crafted by Master Coppersmith, Anselmo Miranda.
