Mission Style

Mission style design grew out of the early Spanish mission settlements in southern California, founded by Franciscan priests in the 18th and 19th centuries. As in the closely related Arts and Crafts movement, simplicity, quality and durability were hallmarks of Mission Style furniture and accessories. Stickley, Roycroft and others are well-known for their contributions to Mission Style.

The warmth, textures and colors of Mission Style had great appeal to the Arts and Crafts movement of the 20th century. Hand-hammered copper, with its beautifully textured surfaces and rich colors, makes an excellent complement to Mission decor.
